Centennial Lodge #4 History

Centennial Lodge #4 was established on January 18th, 1876, just a day after the formation of the Grand Lodge in Colorado. Its name commemorated the centennial anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Initially one of two lodges in Denver, it stands as one of Colorado's oldest lodges under the jurisdiction of "The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge AF&AM of Colorado" until 1922. At that time, the "A" was dropped, and "Prince Hall" was added due to a pre-existing Grand Lodge with the same name in Colorado.

Throughout its history, Centennial Lodge #4 faced both successes and challenges. Under Worshipful Master John C. Moore, the lodge operated a service station and a record store. Tragedy struck in 1977 when the lodge building, undergoing renovations, fell victim to arson. Despite the setback, the lodge continued its meetings in various locations, eventually settling at the Park Hill Masonic Lodge and later purchasing the current location at 650 Billings St. in Aurora in 2011.

Under the leadership of Worshipful Master Michael Giles, Jr., and with the efforts of Past Masters Thomas Mickens, Steven Anderson, Most Worshipful Past Grand Master Garland Osborne, and Bro. Joseph Massie, the lodge transformed the former daycare center into "The Masonic Cultural Center." The first meeting in the new lodge hall took place on April 8th, 2013, commemorated by a cornerstone ceremony on April 27th, 2013, attended by Most Worshipful Grand Master Arturo V. De Los Reyes and numerous Masons, Eastern Stars, and guests.

As of today, Centennial Lodge #4 is celebrating its 125th year, thriving in its current location alongside Queen of the South #11, which marks 10 years at the same address. The lodge remains dedicated to community service, hosting events such as dance classes, clothing and toy giveaways, and financial literacy classes. Notably, the annual Christmas Social, held in collaboration with the Sickle Cell Foundation and Toys for Tots, provides support to families in need, exemplifying the lodge's commitment to civic duties and community welfare.
